" But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men."
Sometimes the ones we love the most can be the "satan" in our day. Are we strong enough to speak up? Do we recognize satan even when he appears as ones that we love so greatly? I can only imagine how these words broke Peters heart.
" Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."
There is another side of the coin though. Do we recognize when WE are satan to someone else? Do we see when we are provoking someone NOT in love or to good works? Whether it is intentional or not do we see it? Are we ready to step back and give room for both parties to bring our thoughts into the captivity of Christ?
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled."
We can be on either side of the coin but we have to recognize it. "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves." See it, bring our flesh under and go on. Let us put on the fruits of the spirit. If that abound in us we will see those things that are not of Him. We will have the boldness as Christ to say get thee behind me and those fruits will blossom and grow.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."
